Trump says he doesn’t trust Iran as fighting continues

CAMP DAVID, Md. (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump said Friday the U.S. has severely degraded Iran’s military, while also acknowledging that Iran retains capabilities to cause harm in the region.

Trump convened his Cabinet at Camp David in Maryland, and offered his latest assessment of the war in Iran, now in its fifth month.

“We’re in for five months and we have obliterated their military capacity,” Trump said. “Again, they’ve got some left. But soon they won’t have some left.”

In response to questions from reporters, the president said negotiations with Iran have been frustrating because, he said, Iranian officials are routinely dishonest.

“I’m losing faith in them,” he said. “Because they do lie. And they do misrepresent.”

Despite weeks of on-again, off-again negotiations, no agreement has been reached to allow cargo ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Oil prices and gas prices have edged higher over the course of the last week as a result.
