Pentagon Memorial prepares to launch new 9/11 education center
ARLINGTON, Va. (Gray DC) - Just as America prepares to mark the 25th year since 9/11, a new education center about the attacks is about to break ground near the Pentagon.
“This year on the 25th remembrance year, we’re going to be breaking ground on our visitor education center … and it is going to provide visitors with ten exhibits that reference Pentagon specific materials for the 9/11 attack,” said Joseph Kornhoff, the executive director of the Pentagon Memorial Fund.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the center, that will be called the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial Visitor Education Center, has long been in the works. Now after years of work, the memorial fund is set to break ground on the 52,000-square-foot facility on Sept. 12, across the street from the existing memorial.
The center aims to provide historical context about the attack on the Pentagon, so new generations understand the gravity of what happened on 9/11.
“It’s our duty as a nation to never forget them and continue to educate all those who weren’t alive that day and who have no recollection of September 11th, and how that day changed the fabric of this nation,” said Kornhoff.
The visitor education center is set to open in 2029.
