Trump to make final midterm stops in Iowa and Kansas Sunday
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump will make final campaign stops in Iowa and Kansas on Sunday, two days before Tuesday’s midterm elections.
Trump won Iowa three times and Kansas twice. He is hoping to give Republicans a final boost in both states. He originally scrapped the stops but decided at the last minute to go through with them.
The Senate seats in both states are a must-win for Republicans to hold the chamber.
A recent Marist poll shows Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson trailing Democrat Josh Turek by three points in Iowa.
In Kansas, Democrat Adam Hamilton holds a narrow lead over incumbent Republican Roger Marshall for the first time.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said he is not worried.
“I’ve seen the voters on the ground. I’m telling you, the polls are wrong. They’re inaccurate. They’re underrepresenting Republicans,” Johnson said.
The last time Iowa sent a Democrat to the Senate was 2008. The last time Kansas did was nearly a century ago.
Trump’s approval rating is around 34% according to the latest Quinnipiac poll.
Whether his presence helps or hurts the Republican ticket will be determined Tuesday.
The Republican Party has confirmed, President Donald Trump will hold rallies starting at 3pm ET, 2pm Central at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque, Iowa and then 8pm ET, ypm CT at the Salina, Kansas regional airport.
